Projects: Various Boxes
On-going
Boxes are a staple among woodworking projects, but also are
often one of the most elegant and artful types of projects
that can be made. This is something that I've only fiddled around
in so far, and that I admire tremendously when I see the work
of other far more accomplished folks. I have only produced one
box to date that warrants posting here for viewing. I hope and
plan to do many more as I develop my skills and artistic ideas.
Walnut/Lacewood.
This is my first box of any note. It is a walnut base with
a removable top made of lacewood with canarywood trim. The miter
splines are also made of canarywood. The finish is a simple
wiped-on blonde shellac. As my first box project, I was
experimenting with a number of different aspects, such as the miter
splines, the mitered trim on the lid, and learning how to fit the
removable top into rabetted sides of the base. I like it, but I
have a long ways to go.
