The Nance’s House
Here is an update on our construction project. My father and mother-in-law lived with us from December to February and they helped us finished a huge part of the house, for which we are very grateful.
We moved in January and we are still working on it. We painted the concrete off-white with a brown border and we put temporary carpet in the bedrooms so we can live in. When we finish the landscaping outside, we will put wood flooring and carpets. Right now Jasper (our dog) and Skizzi (our cat) bring mud when it rains. Bill designed the whole house (inside and outside) and I chose the paint and decoration.
So here are some pictures.
This is the living room: Bill just finished the entertainment center and you can read about it in the next link:
http://estrategy.net/house/entertainmentcenter/ He did an excellent job.
We painted the room with earth tone colors. The living room itself has four colors. Jasper sleeps in the love seat.
Bill and dad built the base for the fireplace and we are planning to put some kind of stone. As you see we also have “temporary” covers in our windows.
This is the view of the kitchen from the entrance. To your right is the living room, to the left is the kitchen and dining room. Bill tiled the kitchen floor and he also put a heating pad. So when you stand up in the winter, your feet would not get cold.
We love our kitchen island. We eat at the counter most of the time watching the news in the evening. It is so comfortable. We spent hours designing the counter, but at the end one day before the granite company came to measure, Bill and our friend Brent designed it so we can sit as many people around it. As you can see, we can put five counter height chairs. They did a great job.
We went to several furniture stores until we found one that could match the counter chairs with our dining room set. The table opens to sit ten chairs, because as you know, I have a big family.
In this area, we planned to put more cabinets and counter but we decided to leave it as a reading spot since it has lights right on top. We got two chairs and it is also one of our favorite spots in the house.
This is the hall to the bedrooms and we can put several tables and chairs when we get big gatherings.
This is the master bedroom. The room has a bay window and Bill built in a wood seat. I hope to put some custom made cushions one day.
This is the master bathroom. Bill and dad tiled the whole bathroom and it came out incredible. He also put a heating pad. It feels very nice. The company that did our kitchen cabinets also did our bathroom. They did a super job with the cabinets. We still have to finish some parts.
This picture is already old. Bill designed the path and it already has concrete.
This is my neighbor cross the street. An engaged couple just bought this house.
At the beginning of August we had all my family in the house
for the first time. We had plenty of space for the “Mau’s”. My sister Giannina and
her family was visiting her in-laws in
So my father-in-law is here now helping us again for 10 days. Yesterday Bill and Dad started to build a shed. I will have an update when they are done.
Also my father-in-law will be painting the house. This picture was taken at
The bottom color is a pale green that shows very nice with the driveway.
It is a big project that we hope to be mostly done by the end of the year.
Bill is learning a lot and having a great time doing the rebuilding.
