Entertainment center.
This is my pride and joy entertainment
center.
It has a recessed plasma tv
in the center, built-in cabinet towers on each side, and a center
speaker/subwoofer cabinet underneath.
The area above the tv and
across the entire top is framed and sheetrocked.
Access to essentially all wiring
is available through features built into the walk-in closet
behind the center.
The project is not yet
finished. I am currently working
on face frames for the three sections.
Drawers will come later.

Left Tower.
It has adjustable shelves
from floor to ceiling.
The shelves are made out of ¾Ó
birch plywood, with ¼Ó birch edge band trim.
Access to the electronics
wiring is available through a cabinet door in the back.

Center Console
Cabinet
The left and right sides of
the center console cabinet will have DVD storage drawers.
The middle portion will have
a black material cover. All of these
interiors will be hidden.
The shelf is dadoÕed into
the sides and is kept from sagging by a finished 1x2 birch support brace underneath.

Upper Center Section
The tv is recessed in a
framed and sheetrocked cutout and is hung on the back wall.
Access to the bracket on the
back of the tv is available via the closet through two 4x6Ó holes in the
sheetrock on the top of the cutout.
These holes also are very useful as vents for the high heat generated by
the plasma tv.
An electrical outlet for the
tv is installed on the back wall of the cutout.
The area above the tv and
the dust collector nooks at the top are sheetrocked with smooth walls.
The color of the nooks
matches the back wall of the living room.

Right Tower
Below the speaker will be drawers for CD storage.
Above the speaker will be left open, but has holes for adjustable shelves.

Flush Front
As you can see, everything
is flush with the front of the wall.
The front of the tv is slightly
recessed and the tv is angled down for viewing while sitting on the sofa.

Behind the entertainment
center is one of the walk-in closets from the master bedroom (my wife has a
separate, larger closet).
The structure of the framing
for the entertainment center can be seen behind the hanging rod.

The incredible mass of
wiring for a surround Hi-Def system is accessible through a small cabinet door
inside this closet.

A lot of thought was
required (heaven forbid!) to figure out how to get the wiring out of the
electronics rack, through the framing, and to the tv and speakers.
The unique cable access wall
plate shown below, found at HomeTech
Solutions, was the major breakthrough. There is a third such plate on the other side of the large
wall, immediately behind the tv.
